Michael O’Neill is a native Alabamian. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Economics and moved to New York to pursue acting, performing off Broadway at Playwrights Horizons, the Manhattan Theatre Club, Circle Rep, and the Promenade Theatre and others. Film and television drafted him to Los Angeles.
He is probably best known as Secret Service Agent Ron Butterfield in "The West Wing", but also starred in "The Unit" as Ron Cheals, the wheel chair bound vet who mentored Jonas. Most recently he caused some anxiety as the "Shooter" in the season finale of Grey's Anatomy. His film credits include "Seabiscuit", "Secondhand Lions", "Transformers", "Nothing But the Truth", "Traffic", "A Quiet Little Marriage", soon to be released "Flying Lessons", and two appearances with Boston's own Matt Damon in "Green Zone" and "The Legend of Bagger Vance".
