Jay Bilas joined ESPN as a college basketball game analyst beginning with the 1995-96 season. The former Duke standout and attorney also serves as a studio analyst, working on ESPN and ESPN2 College Gamenight, plus halftimes, post-games and more. He has also worked as an ESPN reporter for the Final Four and select SportsCenter stories, utilizing both his basketball and legal backgrounds. Most recently, Bilas has had the good fortune to be teamed with Sean McDonough and Bill Raftery on ESPN’s “Big Monday” telecasts. Jay was a four-year starter for legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski at Duke from 1983-86. As a forward/center, Jay averaged 8.4 points (1,062 career points) and 5.4 rebounds for his career and played on Duke’s NCAA Final Four team as a senior. He graduated from Duke in 1986 with a degree in political science, and went on to graduate from Duke University Law School in 1992. A 1986 draft pick of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, Bilas played professionally in Italy and Spain before returning to Duke as an assistant coach (and to attend law school). The Blue Devils reached the Final Four in 1990 and were NCAA champions in ’91 and ’92.
